Should you date someone smarter or someone dumber? By taking the higher position in terms of intellect, your partner will assume the role of problem-solver in the relationship. In a relationship, this is doubly so because a person will want to be on the same level as their partner. Instead of resenting your partner for their intelligence, use the situation as a catalyst to strive to become better in your chosen field. Smart people have an insatiable appetite for learning. They love learning about new things and with that enthusiasm comes the joy of sharing it with someone they love. They have the capacity to think quickly on their feet.

I read voraciously. I like to discuss weighty issues. I know a little bit about a lot and can pretty much hold my own in any cocktail party conversation. They live in their heads. Allow me to explain! A University of Buffalo study recently found that men prefer dating women who are smarter than they are, but only if it is a.
A new study from the University of Western Australia suggests that while in theory we want a partner who is smart, people who are too clever may actually be a turn-off. So much for calling ourselves sapiosexual. The brainy bunch, probably secretly looking into their own dating viability and desireability, surveyed young adults and asked them to rate what they found attractive in a partner: intelligence, easy-goingness, kindness, and physical attractiveness.
The participants were asked how attracted they would be to a potential partner who was more intelligent than 1 percent, 10 percent, 25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent, 90 percent, and then 99 percent of the population. They were then asked the same question for each of the other three personality traits. However, the study suggests that it may be possible to be too intelligent or too easygoing, with the researchers finding that there was a statistically significant reduction in how attractive intelligence and easygoingness were rated at the 99th percentile, compared to the 90th percentile.
When looking at differences between genders, the findings implied that females value kindness and intelligence in a potential partner more than males. However, overall the differences were small, with the study finding that men and women are essentially similar with respect to how desirable they rate intelligence, physical attraction, easygoingness, and kindness. How attractive each of the four characteristics was rated to be was also similar whether participants were rating the trait as a sexually attractive characteristic or for a long-term relationship.

My friend’s boyfriend is charming, a gentleman, and great in bed. She’s a hard-news reporter and Web producer who craves intellectual stimulus outside of her job. When a guy can’t keep up with her as she discusses the news, debates the merits of legal reforms, and cracks sarcastic, witty jokes, she notices that she immediately gets turned off. She’s not the first and hardly the only woman to express a similar sentiment: Some women need a challenge , a man who encourages her to be her fastest, smartest self.
When you have stimulating conversation with someone who really makes you think and who can open your eyes to new things and experiences, you never get bored.
I’m intimidated by my incredibly intelligent partner. If you’re not hanging around with people you find as smart or smarter on you dimension or another then that.
I have a mini-confession to make: I wrote the Tao of Dating books specifically for really smart people. The writing of the books was precipitated by the endemic dating woes on the Harvard campus as I observed them as an advisor and, earlier, indulged in them as a student. Those kids graduate and pretty much continue to have the same dating woes — only now with fewer single people around who happen to live in the same building and share meals with them every day.
So if they had challenges then, it gets about 1, times worse once they’re tossed from the warm womb of their alma mater. From my observations, the following dating challenges seem to be common to most smart people. In fact, the smarter you are, the more clueless you will be, and the more problems you’re going to have in your dating life. Once upon a day I used to be pretty smart, and believe me, I had a lock on clueless. On the one hand, this makes no sense. Smart people can figure stuff out, right?
And this stuff is simple! On the other hand, it makes total sense. For simple things, it takes someone smart to really screw it up.
